Methodology Behind The Momentum Score
The Momentum Score is calculated from the current underlying holdings of each ETF, not from the ETF’s own historical price series. We weight holdings-level signals—such as recent returns (e.g., 1M and 1Y) and distance to trend (50D/200D moving averages)—by portfolio weights to form an aggregate measure of momentum. This approach matters because ETFs routinely reconstitute and change holdings, and especially with momentum strategies, what they hold now can differ materially from the constituents that drove older fund-level returns. Basing the score on current holdings makes it more relevant and timely for investors.
The table shows recent performance and trend position for context. Higher scores reflect stronger, broad-based momentum across present constituents. Investors should also consider how funds score on other factor categories before making an investment decision.
